veneer is a thin layer of material, either composite resin or ceramic,
that is applied to the surface of the tooth to improve appearance and
function.

Before: Note the short teeth and the
excessive gum tissue revealed. After: Following a "gum lift", eight teeth
were treated with porcelain veneers to lengthen and whiten
them. This procedure gave the patient a smile line that
naturally follows the curvature of her lower lip.
